B.Sc Perfusion technology
Bachelor of Science in perfusion technology or B.Sc. perfusion technology is one of the most important B.Sc allied medical care courses in the last few decades mainly due to the introduction of the developments in the heart-lung machines. Perfusion is the science of providing extracorporeal circulation to artificially and temporarily support and replace a person’s circulatory and respiratory systems. This health course trains the students to care, treat and maintain the human body when the lungs are not properly functioning and failing. This is achieved by removing the carbon dioxide from the lungs and the addition of oxygen into the blood. A clinical perfusionist helps the surgeons in open-heart surgeries and selects, sets up and assists in the operation of heart-lung machines and life support systems for patients needing extracorporeal circulation during vascular transplant surgeries, cardiothoracic surgery or for the support of patients who are critically ill.
This program covers many important subjects such as Animal Anatomy, Physiology, Animal Diseases, Veterinary Reproduction Techniques, Poultry Breeding and Management, Food Product Technology and Animal Nutrition, etc. It also provides Clinical Practice, Lab Diagnostics, and Surgery Practical.
To complete the course a person has to study 4 to 5 years, depending on the type of institution they are studying at. Throughout the course, a student will study Veterinary Biochemistry, Veterinary Pharmacology, and Toxicology, Veterinary Anatomy, and Histology with various other subjects. The fee structure of the course also depends on the type of institution one is seeking. Repudiated institutions will be asking for higher fees.
